Call of Duty 5 Announced
Hot on the tail of news that Grand Theft Auto 4 just became the bestselling entertainment launch of all time, ever, beating out Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, competing publisher Activision has stepped up and announced that they’ll be launching Call of Duty 5 in fall of this year.
Aaand no one heard them because they were too busy killing Albanian loan sharks and chasing hookers through Liberty City. But, once people get bored of GTA4 (read: never), I’m sure they’ll be itching for some good old fashioned FPS action. And those who don’t own an XBOX or a PS3 won’t be left hanging because it will be coming out for PC, Wii, PS2 and DS also. (But COD3 pretty much sucked for the Wii, so I don’t know if that’s really good news).
Activision’s CEO has also said that it’ll be set in a “new military theatre.” A more urban setting reminiscent of a large northeastern metropolis.

GTA IV set to beat Halo 3 record
It is a fast moving world, none less so than in the video gaming arena, Analysts are already predicting big things for Grand Theft Auto IV when it is released this month. Microsoft especially are hoping for the lions share of the action on the Xbox 360 Janco Partners analyst Mike Hickey believes betting on GTA IV success is a pretty sure wager for Microsoft;” Grand Theft Auto IV could sell 5.8 million copies in its first week, giving it retail sales of US$360 million, which would be bigger than the US$300 million Halo 3 did in its first week last year”

Easily one of the biggest attractions at the Play.com LIVE event this past weekend at Wembley Stadium in London, England was Ubisoft's booth for Far Cry 2 on the PC, appearing in a curtained-off area, racking up 45 minute queues all day long. Far Cry 2's Narrative Designer, Patrick Redding, and Producer, Louis-Pierre Pharand, were on hand to guide attendees through a 15-minute video demonstration of the game, answering questions along the way. Once loaded, the intake of breath from fans in attendance was almost audible. Far Cry 2 looks beautiful, even in this early build. Naturally, the question "Does it look better than Crysis?" constantly crops up, and it's tough to say. It looked fantastic, albeit possibly a notch below Crysis, but then again we were told that the textures had been drastically improved since November, so it's unfair to make an accurate judgement at this stage.
